Whitehaven Annexation

The Community of Whitehaven was forcefully annexed by the City of Memphis, January 1, 1970, Whitehaven had everything it needed in the way of city services and DID not need anything that Memphis could provide except sewer and power.

The Sheriff’s department provided excellent Law Enforcement and Whitehaven had one of the best Fire Departments in the State. The quality of life there was some of the best around. No one ever locked their doors. The only thing Memphis brought to Whitehaven was HIGHER TAXES and Crime. For two years prior to the forceful annexation, the newspapers were full of angry stories from the citizens who did NOT want to be a part of Memphis

One of the highlights was Whitehaven High. The three guys are the 1972 Whitehaven HS Principals.
