1978 Firefighter Strike – Episode 1

We are pleased to present a 3 part series on one of our most requested topics here at Our Memphis History, the 1978 Firefighter strike. These episodes were part of a Rhodes College class project by our friend, Bonnie Whitehouse. 

There has been much written and even more talk, rumor and innuendo revolving around the events of July 1978. These recordings should set the record straight on what really happened, told by the people who were closest to the actual events. We’ll talk about why the strike happened, how the ‘rank and file’ felt about the walk out and the aftermath.
